When we think of one of the most recognizable patterns in the world, we think of plaid. From runway looks to outfits in iconic movies like Clueless, it’s no secret that plaid has become a staple pattern in fashion over the decades. Lately, we’ve been seeing plaid reinvented in unique and exciting ways, and we’re head over heels for it! Stylist Erica Wark showed us four fabulous looks that we can all use as inspiration to rock plaid all season long.

THE PLAID SWEATER JACKET

Who says you have to compromise style for warmth? Plaid jackets are the perfect staple for cooler temperatures, especially ones that double as a knit sweater. Paired with a simple black turtle neck and leather culottes, a plaid jacket will help elevate a basic outfit. Oversized everything is really popular right now and opting for a jacket that’s on the baggier side will make it wearable in so many ways! Whether you toss a belt on top or wear it loose, a plaid jacket is sure to take your fall and winter outfits to the next level.

Featured Items: Jacket; Aritzia, $250 | Belt; Zara, $39.90 | Hat; Addition Elle, $49 | Earrings; BIKO, $85 | Pants; Addition Elle, $349 | Boots; Zara, $139 | Bag; Ai Seoul, $75 | Turtleneck; Zara, $39.90

THE PLAID SUIT

Oversized plaid blazers are a huge trend right now, so why not take the style one step further with a matching set? Suiting is a great way to show off your silhouette while still staying classy. If you’re looking for something more timeless, you can opt for a plaid suit in classic colours like black, white and nude. Best of all, you can wear both pieces separately! The blazer can be paired with jeans and a t-shirt for a day out and the pants can be worn with a nice blouse at the office. Overall, a plaid suit is definitely worth the investment.

Featured Items: Coat; Topshop via Hudson’s Bay, $180 | Blazer; Sosken, $498 | Turtleneck; H&M, $29.99 | Pant; Sosken, $250 | Shoes; L’Intervalle, $168 | Bag; H&M, $34.99 | Earrings; H&M, 14.99 |

THE PLAID DRESS

While plaid has a reputation for being preppy or equestrian, a plaid dress is proof that it can also be sexy! A plaid jumper dress can be styled in countless ways and is extremely versatile. Whether you layer it with a bow blouse or dress it down with a black turtleneck, a plaid dress has the potential to go from a 90s vibe to event attire.

Featured Items: Blouse; Aritzia, $98 | Dress; Aritzia, $148 | Coat; Aritzia, $428 | Tights; Sheertex, $59 | Earrings; H&M, $14.99 | Bag; L’Intervalle, $158 | Boot; L’Intervalle, $248 | Hair Clips; Ai Seoul, $35

THE PLAID SET

For those that want the most fashion-forward option, a plaid set is definitely your best bet. Similar to a plaid suit, a set has two pieces but swaps a fitted jacket for a top. While you can find plaid sets in virtually any form, we love when the combination mimics the look of a dress. You can also style both pieces separately to get more wear out of the set.

Featured Items: Top; Zara, $49.90 | Skirt; Zara, $79.90 | Earrings; H&M, $5.99 | Bag; H&M, $29.99 | Boots; Zara, $199
