Let's be honest, no one really likes moving. It's chaotic, messy, and all around exhausting. However, we all know that incredible feeling when you finally do get settled into your new home. One family wrote in to us for help with their big move because they had a particularly tricky situation; Ainsley's husband Robyn would be away for work training when they have to move from their small condo into their new house, and she herself would be seven months pregnant. Needless to say, they could use a few helping hands. Our team of experts stepped in to make their new house their dream home in record time, and their sharing their best moving tips with all of us!

JANE LOCKHART

Purge at the same time as packing. Make a pile for items to give away to charities like Salvation Army or the furniture bank so you don't move pieces you are likely to never use again.

OWEN REEVES

Avoid the slow move-in. Knock it all off on one weekend, rather than stretching it out over a period of time by doing a bunch of runs in a smaller vehicle. It seems cheaper and less daunting, but it really just prolongs the pain. Rip it off like a band-aid!

CHARLES THE BUTLER

Make an essentials cleaning kit, because you never know what you're going to run into. This should includes:

  1. Toilet/bathroom supplies for first few days
  2. Garbage bags
  3. Basic cleaning supplies
  4. Important papers/phone numbers you will need access too
  5. Cellphone cords etc. to charge your stuff until you unpack”

RAMSIN KHACHI

Re-key all locks immediately and make copies for your family AND clear all codes programmed into the garage door opener or electronic locks in the house. You'll sleep better at night.
