Our set designer shares her secrets for having a stylish, organized kitchen

Using items you already have in new ways can give your kitchen a whole new look!

It's no secret that keeping a kitchen organized comes with it's challenges, especially if you live with numerous people. However, once you find your groove, your routine will a whole lot smoother! To make that process easier, our set designer Danielle Hunter, shared three DIYs to help take your kitchen to the next level. 

DECORATIVE SHELVES

Materials needed:

Instructions:

  1. Create a colour scheme and gather things you have accordingly like trays, placemats and dishware or pull together things that you can use for the current season.
  2. Start with the backdrop and back layer using trays, placemats and plates.
  3. Then layer smaller items in to create character and interest.

Have fun and make your ledge a useful and creative backdrop to your kitchen!

PEG BOARD

Materials needed:

  • One 4’x8’x 1/2″ sheet of veneered plywood, but we cut ours to 3’x6’
  • Two 1″ wooden dowels
  • Wood plank for shelves.
  • 1″ Forstner Drill Bit
  • Drill
  • Saw
  • Sandpaper
  • Level

Instructions:

  1. Drill holes with Forstner bit. Ours were 4” apart. Use a guild to make sure the holes are drilled/ cut straight.
  2. Plan out your shelves and cut to size.
  3. Cut dowels for shelf holders, long enough to put through the board and have space on the other size for stability.
  4. Sand any rough edges.
  5.  Hang the board from the back with a wooden angled cleat.
