Amping up your curb appeal doesn't have to be an expensive or time-consuming project. A few easy fixes that you can do yourself will help bring your outdoor space back to its former glory. Follow these simple steps from Owen Reeves.

Clean

A huge part of curb appeal is about having a clean space.  Edging garden beds, mowing the lawn properly, pulling weeds, trimming/pruning the bushes & shrubs, laying mulch (reduce maintenance and refresh).

  • A huge part of curb appeal is about having a clean space.
  • Lawn care
  • weeding gardens beds
  • edging garden beds
  • pruning overgrown shrubs and trees
  • pressure washing of exterior siding
  • walkways

Reuse

Whenever I assess a makeover I look at what can we reuse. Everyone has something that they can clean, update or reuse. Christine had an existing walkway with nice flagstone – but overtime with frost and moisture the stones shifted and it needed to be reinstalled the right way.  Perennials can be reused.  We just moved them into another area.

  • Transplant existing perennials/shrubs
  • plant containers
  • lift, clean and reposition landscape rocks

Replace Old Fixtures

Replace outdated light fixtures and be sure to use outdoor LED bulbs which use less energy. Also look at replacing the following items if any are looking dated or weathered.

  • Lighting
  • door hardware
  • address plaque/numbers
  • mailbox
  • doorbell

Add Colour

Painting shutters and doors. Added colour to the garden.  Plant annuals in planters on the porch.

  • Painting exterior
  • painting doors/shutters
  • plant beds and containers with annuals
  • hanging baskets
  • add decor elements for pops of colour
