As much as we hate to admit it, winter is coming. Preparing your home for the cold weather ahead is the smartest way to stay cozy all winter long, and even save some money. The Kitchen Cousins John Colaneri and Anthony Carrino share their top six tips for keeping the heat inside.

  1. Make sure shades and curtains are left open during the day to have the sun come into your home.
  2. Apply caulk to seal off air leaks around windows. Caulk only costs a few bucks and can add up to major savings on your energy bill.
  3. Insulate older windows with bubble wrap.
  4. Use pebbles or rocks at the bottom of your plastic boot tray.  When you put your boots in it allows the snow to melt easily and the boots are elevated above the water and not sitting in water so they dry faster.
  5. Use newspaper in your boots to dry them out faster.
  6. Change filters in your HVAC so your heating runs efficiently.
