Styling secrets that can make your bedroom look bigger

If you can’t afford a bigger home, you might as well make it appear as if you live in one! Interior designer, Jane Lockhart, has the tips and tricks on how to make a bedroom look bigger.

TIP #1: KEEP YOUR CORNERS CLEAN

Leave the corners of your bedroom open! Stay away from stacking any plants, books, or miscellaneous items into the corners of your space. Instead, keep all necessary items close to your bed to ensure that it remains as the room’s focal point. It's hard to discern the size of a room when you can't see its corners.

TIP #2: SUPERSIZE YOUR RUG

Oversize your area rug if you have hardwood floors. However, beware! However, beware! Don't make the rug larger than the bed, rather make it at least 16" to 18" beyond the bed edge, all the way around.

TIP #3: MIRRORS

Use mirrored side tables to make your bedroom feel bigger. They can either be closed or open side tables, it all depends on how much storage you require.

TIP #4: HANGING LIGHTS

Hang bedroom lamps‎ over your night stands instead of having ones that sit on the table. This saves space and brings light down to the eye level. Add dimmers so they can be adjusted whenever you need.

TIP #5: DIAGONAL FLOORING

Installing new flooring? Lay hardwood on a diagonal angle.

TIP #6: LESS PILLOWS

If you have a king sized bed, stay away from adding three euro pillows against the headboard if they don’t fit properly. Instead, buy two super euro king sized pillows, they fit a king bed properly and these pillows stay in place! Bonus? They’re also perfect for lounging against when reading.
