How to style your table for the holidays

When the food menu is locked down and the guests are confirmed, the only thing left on the list is that holiday table décor. To avoid getting bogged down by chargers, color schemes and center pieces, we picked the brain of interior designer Jane Lockhart on how to properly style a holiday table from Christmas to New Years. The best part is - you don’t have to break the bank to get two fresh holiday looks.

Color schemes

Using the traditional holiday colors of red, white and gold as a base, mix in natural elements to make it a rustic Christmas. When New Year’s Eve rolls around, all you have to do is swap out that red for a dramatic black and you’re good to go!

The centerpiece

You can add branches, poinsettias or other plants for the center piece on Christmas, and use inexpensive accents like twine to add a true Canadiana element to your table. For the New Year celebrations, you can use the exact same center piece if you just add a couple of minor décor pieces to the existing arrangement.

The details

No need to change the dishes and cutlery for the Christmas to New Year changeover. By using different chargers and salad plates, you significantly change the look of the entire table without busting your budget. Swap the rustic twine for some glitzy ribbon and the glasses for some champagne flutes and you’ll be ready to ring in the New Year!
