The best things you can do now to live a longer and healthier life

We all want to live long and healthy lives. However, there are many factors when it comes to aging. Registered dietician Nishta Saxena shares her tips on what we should be focusing on during each decade of our lives.

Your 30s

In your 30s you may not be as focused on eating or cooking due to busy socializing and school or career demands. However, it's very important to get into healthy eating habits. Did you know that the number one enemy of health when it comes to diet is processed foods? Try to eat as much whole foods as you can possibly can and try to prepare food instead of buying lunch everyday. Even if it means spending a bit more money, you'll be healtheir and happier in the long run. 

Your 40s

We all know that exercising and being fit is important. But don't forget about weights! Weight bearing excercises protect bones, reduce body fat, protect the heart and reduce your risk of diabetes and heart disease. Consistency in your exercise is key as well! In your 40s you'll notice you have to work harder than before to maintain your fitness. Even if you can only workout 2 times weekly, but you ALWAYS work out 2 x weekly, that consistency is better than anything else.

Your 50s

Working on stress-management tools that for you and practicing them regularly will you with a lower blood pressure as you get older. This is different for everybody, what helps you reconnect to yourself and stay relaxed? Don't forget to also get enough sleep. Make it a priority as important as exercise and eating well. Rest and recovery is crucial here, this is where you will win the battle!

Your 60s

By the time you're in your 60's you probably have an idea how you manage stress, tools and habits for yourself. Now you really want to build your life around these activities for best results.
