Vegan restaurants are popping up all over Canada, but they are far from anything you've ever seen before. With incredible, innovative chefs at the helm, these restaurants are totally changing the game when it comes to going meat-free. Whether you're vegan or not, food expert James Cunningham shares four different vegan restaurants that everyone has to try. 

Rosalinda, Toronto 

This restaurant screams vibrant, feel-good Mexican vegan cuisine! Their young coconut ceviche is delicous and their most popular dish is hands down jackfruit pibil tacos! Rosalinda holds 138 seats which means it's the perfect place to celebrate any occasion with friends and family.

The Coup Restaruant, Calgary 

The Coup is an ethical vegetarian restaurant with an intimate atmosphere, serving fresh organic local foods and drinks. A large percentage of their ingredients are organic, local & even made from scratch! The restaurant is also environmentally friendly, they recycle nearly everything, compost all raw materials and has an abundant garden. 

Featured dish: "The Tempeh Shawarma", smoked & marinated tempeh, mixed greens, parsley, mint, carrots & goat feta drizzled with a spicy tahini sauce in a house red-fife pita.

Virtuous Pie, Vancouver and Toronto (November 2018)

Virtuous Pie is an elevated fast-casual restaurant, focused on 100% plant-based, handcrafted, pizza + ice cream. They have 2 locations in Vancouver and 1 coming this November in Toronto! Their mission is to accelerate the adoption of a plant-based diet by providing delicious, affordable ($11-14 pizza) and fast vegan food options. They even make their cheese, 3 day pizza dough and ice cream in-house! 

Featured dish: “Stranger Wings Pizza, made with spicy buffalo cauliflower, crisp fried shallots, blue “cheese” drizzle, and scallion, inspired by the flavours of the classic “buffalo chicken” pizza.

Mythology Diner, Toronto 

Mythology redefines the traditional diner experience by veganizing menu classics like burgers, Reuben sandwiches, fish & chips, cobb salad, cinnamon bun pancakes, and more! Honoured as the city's best chef in the NOW Toronto Reader's Choice Awards, Doug McNish is mythology's co-owner and executive chef. Located in Parkdale, the restaruant is an intimate 36-seat space open weekly for all day breakfast too!

Featured dish: "The Reubenator Sandwich”, light rye bread piled high with a ridiculous amount of house-cured, smoked and deli-sliced corned seitan beef. Slathered with Russian dressing, sauerkraut and creamy cashew swiss, and served with a crunchy dill pickle and your choice of side.
