Six recipes that have six ingredients or less

We challenged food blogger Vijaya Selvaraju to come up with six delicious recipes that require minimal ingredients!
*Note: Four staple cooking agents (water, oil, salt, and pepper) are not counted as an ingredient.

Chili Cheese Parathas (6 ingredients)


For the Dough:


  • 2 cups, Whole Wheat Flour
  • 1 tsp, Salt
  • ¼ cup, Vegetable Oil
  • ¾ cup, Water or more to form dough

For Filling:



  • 1 cup, shredded Mozzarella
  • 1/2  cup, minced White Onion
  • 1 Thai Green Chili, minced




  1. Mix together Flour, Salt, and Oil in a bowl.
  2. Gradually add water until a soft, and slightly sticky dough forms. Set aside to rest for 15 minutes.
  3. Combine all filling ingredients and set aside.
  4. Pinch Golf Ball sized pieces of dough and gently press to flatten.
  5. Fill with 1-2 tbsp of Cheese Mixture, and bring in all sides of the dough to close.
  6. Roll out on a floured surface until evenly thin.
  7. Heat a frying pan on medium high. Place rolled dough on pan, and cook for 30-45 seconds a side, until slightly charred.
  8. Remove from pan, and cut into fours to serve.






Homemade Falafel (5 ingredients)




  • 1 can of Chickpeas, drained, rinsed, and dried on paper towel
  • 1 small Onion, chopped
  • ½ cup Parsley, chopped
  • 4 cloves of Garlic, chopped
  • 3 tbsp, Flour
  • ¼ tsp Pepper & 1 tsp, Salt







  1. Add Chickpeas, Onion, Parsley, Garlic, Salt and Pepper to a Food Processor. Blend together until mixture forms a coarse paste.
  2. Transfer to a bowl, and add Flour. Mix to combine.
  3. Heat a large frying pan on medium high heat. Form little 2 inch patties with mixture, and add to frying pan. Cook for 2 minutes on each side, or until golden and crispy.
  4. Serve warm, and enjoy!

Peach Hot Wings (4 ingredients)




  • 2 lbs, Chicken Wings
  • 1.5 tbsp, Baking Powder*
  • 3/4 cup, Peach Jam
  • ¾ cup, Louisiana Style Hot Sauce
  • 1 tsp, Salt




  1. Preheat oven to 250 degrees, and place a rack on a baking tray.
  2. Massage baking powder and salt into wings, and arrange on the rack, making sure not to crowd the Wings.
  3. Bake at 250 degrees for 30 minutes, then increase heat to 450 degrees and bake for an additional 40 minutes.
  4. Remove from oven, and prepare the sauce by heating up peach jam, and hot sauce in a saucepan until bubbling.
  5. Place wings in a large bowl, and pour sauce over top. Toss to coat. Enjoy hot!

Please note: An earlier version of this recipe incorrectly listed baking soda as an ingredient as opposed to baking powder.




Aquafaba Meringue (3 ingredients)






  • ¾ cup of the liquid from a can of room temperature unsalted Chickpeas (Aquafaba)
  • 2/3 cup of Sugar
  • 1 tsp Vanilla



  1. Preheat oven to 250 degrees and line two cookies sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Add Aquafaba (Chickpea Liquid) to the bowl of a stand mixer. Whisk on high for 15 minutes until stiff peaks form. Then add the sugar, 1 spoonful at a time, followed by the Vanilla.
  3. Using two spoons, scoop Meringue mixture and place dollops spaced a couple of centimeters apart on a baking tray.
  4. Bake for 1.5 hours, or until Meringues have completely dried and are firm.
  5. Allow to cool and serve right away.  Store in an airtight container to maintain crispness.


Palmier Cookies (2 ingredients)




  • 1 sheet, thawed Puff Pastry
  • 1 cup, White Sugar


  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees, and line a baking tray with Parchment Paper.
  2. Scatter ¼ cup of Sugar over work surface. Place Puff Pastry on top of Sugar, and top with ¼ cup of Sugar. Using a rolling pin, gently roll out pastry to remove any bumps or creases, and to press sugar into the dough.
  3. Fold the left long side of the dough half way towards the middle. Fold the right long side of the dough half way towards the middle.
  4. Repeat process again for left and right side so that they touch in the middle. Then fold one side over the other side to form a stack.
  5. Slice into 3/8 inch pieces, and roll in more sugar. Place on Baking Sheet, spacing cookies 2 inches apart.
  6. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes until golden brown.

Frozen Yogurt (1 ingredient)




  • Fruit-Flavoured Yogurt




  1. Spoon yogurt into an Ice Cube Tray. Freeze Solid.
  2. Allow Frozen Yogurt cubes to slightly thaw at room temperature, then add to a Food Blender, and blend until creamy. Enjoy!
