Family Therapist Joe Rich chats with Marilyn about troubled teens and the warning signs indicating a seriously dangerous path.

From changes in their appearance, attitude and finances to sexual activity, peer groups and sleep patterns, teen troubles typically have clear indicators if you really know your child.

Joe Rich says first and foremost parents need to be an expert on their own teen. From there, the changes and signs will be more obvious.

The key is to see some of the problematic signs in combination with others.  For example, a teen staying up late and sleeping all day might be considered typical behaviour if he/she maintains great friendships, grades and attitude. But once you see a change in sleep pattern along with a drastic change in peer groups and mood, it’s time to seek professional help.
