Money Saving Travel Tips

Beat the winter blues with these great money-saving travel tips from travel expert Heather Greenwood Davis.

Play the field: Let a travel search engine do all the work for you. Sites like Kayak.com can alert you when deals are happening. All you have to do is put in your information like travel date, destination, etc.

Know your travel personality when booking: If you’re someone who knows when you like to travel, then book early to secure your date and location. If you’re someone who is more flexible, then changing your dates may save you money. Sites like Travelzoo.ca send you top 20 deals or even deals of the day allowing you to book based on the deal. Sites like Jauntaroo.com make recommendations after you fill out what you like (i.e. sunny, adventurous, kid-friendly).

Go where everyone is NOT going: You can find great last-minute deals on places that are not known for March Break. I.e. You can find great deals for Las Vegas, especially if you book off the strip. Even places like Thailand may have a pricey flight, but accommodations are very affordable.

Loyalty Programs: Be loyal to everyone. Why not reap the benefits from various hotels. Some hotels offer parking privileges, late check-outs, complimentary breakfasts, etc.

Make the most of your location: Some places have event-specific deals. For instance, you can save on dining while touring Toronto during Winterlicious. Hotels also offer deals or extras. For instance, Paradise Point Hotel in San Diego offers line bypass.
