Mixing Antiques into Comtemporary Decor

Let one style be dominant in the space
Have the antique be the focal point. If most of your pieces are contemporary consider adding in that piece handed down from the family (or just looks like it does.)
If it is good quality, the piece will speak for itself.
Accessorize the antique to tie it in with the rest of the décor—an antique vitrine could house your modern collections or be styled with 1 accent colour to make it cohesive with the rest of the room.
Stain colour can be changed, hardware switched out, or upholstery changed to blend the pieces into your existing décor.
Don’t do too much of one look.
Pick pieces that you love or have sentimental value.
Rethink use—just because the piece lived in your great-grandmother’s foyer doesn’t mean it can’t be used in a different room in your house. I love using the unexpected in a room

Examples:

An antique rug with modern furniture looks rich, inviting and very old world.
Mid-century modern classics are a great way to mix in modern with a heritage feel.
A well placed wardrobe or cabinet can give an opulent feel.

9 . The juxtaposition of styles ie/ modern paintings in a traditional space, an antique rug in a modern home can give a richness that cannot be accomplished with an homogenous décor scheme.
