Gift-buying for different relationship stages

Dating expert Andrea Syrtash offers viewers a gift-buying guide for the different stages in your relationship.

Valentines gifts for every relationship stage!

STAGE ONE:

This is the stage where giving a generic gift is perfectly appropriate. Don’t get into anything too personal such as photos or jewelry, as it make be a little bit TOO much. Spending tons of money on lavish gifts and exotic trips and jewelry may not work in your favor when you just started to date someone. For one thing, you are setting the bar very high for heightened experiences, and it may be hard to keep up this lifestyle. And another thing, you may actually turn people off who aren’t sure I you are the person for them. Remember: There's a fine line between creepy and romantic at the start of dating someone new!

COOKIE GRAM’S GOURMET COOKIE BOUQUET - $36.99

WORLD’S LARGEST GUMMY BEAR - $29.95

COLD STONE CREAMERY CUSTOM ICE CREAM -  $8.99

BELGIAN CHOCOLATE NOVELTIES FOR MEN - $9.99 - $17.39

STAGE TWO:

At this point, you are likely calling each other 'boyfriend' or 'girlfriend' and can make your gift more personal - in fact, at this point it's good to tailor your gift to your partner! A great gift idea is to buy a gift that works towards a common goal - does he always talk about going to Japan in the future? Buy some apps on your phone or ipad to learn the language, or enroll in a sushi making course to take together!

U STAR PERSONALIZED NOVEL - $35.95

MOET & CHANDON ROSE IMPERIAL CHAMPAGNE - $75.00

AN APP TO TELL: DECLARE YOUR LOVE - FREE DOWNLOAD

STAGE THREE:

This is the time you should put more time and effort into your gift! Ironically, some people who have dated for a while get lazy with their gifts, assuming that they're "in" with their partners and can shop last-minute. However, this is the time to make sure your gift is very personal and the card you give reflects your feelings (at least for most women, a thoughtful card or letter wins big points!). A great gift at this stage is to give an “experience”: When you're first falling in love, your brain releases the chemical DOPAMINE (that's why you see little birdies and rainbows when you're falling in love!). You can re-create the feeling of new love by sharing novel activities with your partner!

KODAK PULSE DIGITAL FRAME - $129.95

BOLDLOFT “SAY I LOVE YOU” PILLOW CASES - $36.00
