Humans aren’t the only ones that need to be concerned about obesity, but our pets do too. Veterinarian, Dr. Jessica Lam, shares tips for getting your pet moving.
Increase their activity with minor tweaks:
Post weight loss:
Move their food and water bowl to another floor in your house, and switch it up regularly, so that your pet always has to walk to get to it
Move the food bowl as far away from your dog’s favourite hang out spots as possible
Take advantage of playtime by incorporating their favourite things to chase - balls, laser pointers, squeaky toys
Since your veterinarian has guided you through the process to Fido’s ideal weight, this is a good time to revisit the ongoing plan for their diet. Discuss feeding amounts and ask for healthy food recommendations for a maintenance diet.
Use a standardized measuring cup for meals
No human food, except for small pieces of vegetables and fruits as treats
Regular brisk walks or activity preserves their lean muscle mass while preventing weight stored as fat
