Amanda's Tips for bringing the Hotel Inspiration into your Home

Hotel Lighting

Install multiple hall light fixtures in row! This looks modern and luxurious. Purchase less expensive fixtures but many of them to create drama in a hall way. Drum style shades work particularly well for this look but lantern style lights would be nice in a more traditional styled home.

Hotel Flooring

Use area rugs to define seating areas. This image is of inlayed carpet which I would not recommend for a residential setting, however the idea of using multiple punchy area rugs to warm your space and create drama is a definitely something to consider in your own home. Can’t find the size you’re looking for? Have hotel grade broadloom cut to size and bound for custom area rugs that stand up in high traffic areas.

Use Durable Fabrics

Contract grade fabrics can be put on residential furniture. When ordering custom upholstered pieces simply ask for contract grade fabrics. These fabrics come in a huge array of colours and patterns, they are reasonably priced too as generally hotels are buying hundreds of yards.

It's all about Personality

Inject your own personality in to your home! Celebrate your family’s culture and history by using family heirlooms that depict your ancestry. This can be done by using antique artifacts, architectural salvage or imported pieces from your country of origin.

Use hotel rooms as inspiration for your own bedroom.

The room setting is actually fairly neutral with brown walls, nice wainscoting detail and white base linens. The personality comes from the injection of apple green and bright red, an unusual (outside of holiday season) but effect colour combination!

Like Hotels, Create Your own Music Compilation

The term is Prescriptive Music: W Hotels, Ace Hotels does it, among others. Music creates atmosphere! Consider creating your own music compilations to create a mood at your next dinner party? Guests can then take home a beautifully wrapped copy for themselves, a cool and inexpensive take home gift.
