Five Tips for Starting Your Makeover Project

Let the bones of the space speak to you

Take a look at your space and think about the look and feel you want to create. With Adams space, we wanted to play up the loft feel and decided to paint all the walls and cabinetry for a fresh, clean, canvas. Let the bones of the space speak for themselves (exposed brick and posts)

Create a furniture plan and think double duty

Come up with a furniture plan and know what you are utilizing each space for. Think double duty especially in a small space for your furniture. With Adams space, we know he wants to use the “dining” area as an office, but will also need somewhere to host dinner guests

Colour palette is key

Colour palette is key. Think about what you want to do. Havefun with colour. In Adam’s place we want to use a neutral color palette for the furniture and walls and add bold hits of colour, pattern and texture with accessories. Others might want more dramatic color

Mix old with new

A mix of old and new pieces really makes a space from looking too much like a show home. Vintage finds are a great way to add some character to space and are a great conversation starter. Adam had a few great pieces we will try to incorporate

Remove the clutter

Not that this was relevant to Adam’s place but remove the clutter. Re-decorating a space really gives you the time to go through all your clutter and get rid of things you don’t need.
