The Fasting Method With The Best Health Results Is Actually Totally Doable

Jim Karas does an 18-hour fast every week, and he's here to tell us why we should all be joining him.

What are the 18-hour and 24-hour complete fasts?
They are exactly what they sound like, fasting for 18 or 24 hours. You decide when it starts, which should possible be post-exercise. Personally, I can’t skip breakfast so if I do the 24 hour fast, I get up, eat a piece of fruit, workout, eat breakfast then fast until breakfast the next day. Others skip breakfast and lunch and just eat dinner one night, then nothing until dinner the same time the next night.

What is the high and low day fast, and what are you allowed to eat?
Two days a week, very clean lean protein and veggies ONLY. Your total calorie intake should be 500 calories only, for these 2 days. The other days of the week, stick tosmart eating. Maybe not totally clean, but with good intention.

What would surprise me about fasting, that I don’t already know?
Ironically, you can eat more crap, and still lose weight and derive the benefits of intermittent fasting. Of course, I don’t recommend you eat crap and instead the typical “clean” diet of protein, carbs, good fats, fiber, etc., is what you should be eating. BUT, for those who don’t like to eat “clean,” this may be a great option as they do derive many benefits.

How do you know if fasting is working?
Look at the scale, how you feel, your skin, your energy levels, and your clarity – you’ll likely notice a BIG difference!
