How they work
- The machine analyzes the heart rhythm
- Looking for a rhythm that's chaotic or too fast. In both cases the heart isn't pumping effectively
- Defibrillation sends an electrical current through the heart to stop abnormal activity and allows the heart to re-establish normal electrical impulses. Like doing a ctrl-alt-del on your computer
- For each minute the person waits for defibrillation the chance of suvival drops 7-10%.
