Maureen’s Top 3 Tips for March Break

1. Fun - Is there something there that appeals to everyone?  Plan out each day roughly to cover off everyone's "must do's"

2. Relax - Although there are lots of choices of things to do you don't want to come back from a vacation feeling like you need a vacation so plan to spend some time just relaxing. That might be just spending a few hours in the morning on the beach or an evening in the ski lodge playing boardgames.

3. Memories - Yes these trips can be expensive but they make the best memories.  Try to take it all in and live in the moment.  Of course take tons of pictures too.  I love to get my kids to take pictures and video too, it keeps them busy and they are so proud.

Sun Option #1: Cruises

Cruises are an amazing place for families to vacation for March break because everything is all in one place so there is no commuting from point A to Point B to keep the kids entertained.
It is a controlled place so it is very safe for the kids and there is something on offer for everyone – adults, kids & teenagers alike.

The Kids clubs that are on offer on almost all cruise liners now are amazing. It is not a babysitting service, it is a full on activity based club where the kids get to play and hang out without their parents which allows some free time for the adults to enjoy some of the amenities on the ship as well.

The Disney Dream™ is the majestic third ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet. Boasting 14 towering decks, a ship length of 1,115 feet and a maximum width of 125 feet, the 130,000-ton vessel includes 1,250 staterooms and has the capacity to comfortably accommodate 4,000 passengers—along with the over 1,458 Crew Members who tend to the needs of every cruise Guest each and every day.

The Disney Dreams Cruise ship has a wonderful Kids Club and so many options for entertainment on offer including shows.

For families with kids with food allergies the Disney dreams cruise ship also provides the same server for every meal so that they are aware of your or your children’s special dietary requirements for the duration of the trip.
The ships sails out of Vancouver to Alaska, LA to Mexico and Port Kennedy in Florida.

Sun Option #2: Theme Parks

Walt Disney World, Orlando, Florida: One thing that Completely overwhelmed me as a parent when I visited here was the sheer size of it and its really important to keep that in mind when planning out your activities and how you will spend the day there.

Price: 6 day/7 night package including accommodations and Magic Your Way theme park tickets for a family of four - $1,965
***USD $1,915 converted to CAD $1,965 using today's exchange rate of .97

Disneyland, Anaheim, California: Its really important to remember that you need to book any special tours or character dinners or special experiences well in advance as a lot of them are appointment based.
Downtown Disney was a little quieter so easier to get around and more of the attractions were available.

Price: 3 day/4 night package including accommodations and Park Hopper theme park tickets for a family of four - $1,500
*** USD $1,462 converted to CAD $1,500 using today's exchange rate of .97

Legoland:  One thing to remember here is the gift shops are very temping and that if you want to avoid having to say 10,000 times to your kids then have a discussion about the gift shop before you go, ask them to save some money so that they can buy a souvenir or discuss with them that they can have one really special souvenir, not everything in the store.

Sea World: It’s a good idea to plan out your day here in terms of seeing the shows or doing special tours and again attractions like feeding the penguins or petting the dolphins need to be booked in advance so important to organize that before you go. If you decide to be spontaneous and just head to Sea World then there is still plenty to see and do.

  • There is a Staff show and a kids talent show
