A French Inspired Vintage Cookie

Materials:
  • Fondant
  • Royal Icing
  • Silicone Mold (French Cameos and Flue delis)
  • Corn Starch
  • Small Rolling Pin
  • Small Scissors
Optional:
  • Dragees/Sugar Pearls
  • Editable Paint (are available in all different metallic and colours)
  • Small Paint Brush

Directions:

  1. Dip a basic, classic shortbread or sugar cookie on the side your want to decorate in Royal Icing Sugar that is coloured. We have decided to us the colour blue. Set a side and let it dry. This can take approximately 6 hrs.
  2. Take your fondant and Silicone mold.  Break off some fondant and roll into a ball. Add a tiny bit of corn starch to your silicone mold to prevent the fondant from sticking. Place the fondant into the mold and take your small rolling pin and roll the fondant out. You want to add a little pressure to ensure that the fondant gets into all the little groves and crevices of the mold. If you find the fondant is sticking to your rolling pin sprinkle some more corn starch on tops of the fondant.
  3. Carefully remove the fondant from the mold. You do not want to stretch it out. Take your scissors and remove the excess that surrounds the fondant mold you have created.
  4. Take your royal icing and use it like glue. Add some to the back of your mold and place on cookie.
  5. Around the mold add a pearl border (a basic piping technique) this frames out your cameos and gives more of a delicate look.
  6. Add your dragees/sugar pearls to the border to give it a little sparkle and shine. Don’t place them too close together. You do not want to completely cover the border you have created.
These are just some decorating guide lines. You can use the materials in anyway you’d like. Get creative but always have a theme in mind when decorating.
