Rob Mariano Ventures Out of Boston

By: Christina Yonzon, Marilyn.ca

Rob Mariano, most commonly known as “Boston Rob,” isn’t quite ready to hang up his reality TV shoes just yet.

Mariano has competed on four ‘Survivors’: ‘Marquesas,’ ‘All-Stars,’ ‘Heroes vs. Villains’ and ‘Redemption Island.’ After almost a decade, he was finally crowned the “sole survivor” in the latter. In that time he also competed in two seasons of ‘The Amazing Race,’ (airing on Sunday nights at 8pm EST on CTV) married fellow ‘Survivor’ castaway and winner Amber in a televised special and starred alongside her in ‘Rob and Amber: Against the Odds.’

A few months have passed since his Survivor win, but Mariano is still flying high.

“It felt great,” says Mariano. “The best part about it is now in my own house I don’t have to hear from my wife who’s the ‘Survivor’ winner.”

After ‘Survivor,’ Mariano’s next project involved even more reality TV screen-time. He and monster truck driver Dennis Anderson costar in ‘Around the World in 80 Ways,’ a television show in which the duo travel from place to place using various forms of transportation – without repeating any.

While traveling, Mariano stays in touch with Amber and their two daughters, Lucia and Carina, via Skype. He has certainly made a name for himself in the world of reality television, but you can’t help but wonder if all of this time away from home causes any strain on his relationship with Amber.

“Luckily I have a wife that’s very supportive of my adventurous spirit,” Mariano explains. And he’s made the most of the opportunity. “She allows me to go on these escapades and I’ve made a career out of it.”

Having been to so many cities around the world, Rob tells us his top three places to vacation:
  1. Whistler, British Columbia
  2. Queenstown, New Zealand
  3. Boston, Massachusetts
… Did the last one really surprise you?
