Musician, actor and 80s icon Rick Springfield dived head-first into a whirlpool of projects – his newest being the documentary, ‘An Affair of the Heart: The Journey of Rick Springfield and His Devoted Fans.’ Despite the title, Springfield insists he’s only featured as a performer and the fans are the real stars of the film.
“I’ve never seen a rock documentary quite like it. I thought it was going to be a puff piece,” says Springfield. “To see that depth of connection and how those fans deal with it at home, it’s pretty amazing.”
The documentary follows Rick Springfield’s over-the-top fans who have connected with the rock star over his thirty-year music career. Springfield believes his rise to fame was all thanks to the majority of his fan base going through teenage puberty at the time.
Looking back at the 80s, Springfield recalls having to build his own music career and realizing that true happiness can’t come from the fame and fortune he may or may not achieve, which is the subject of the autobiography he is currently writing.
Aside from the documentary and autobiography, he is also keeping busy with acting in 'General Hospital,' 'Californication,' 'Hawaii Five-O' and 'Hot in Cleveland.' And at 62, Springfield is still performing (up to a hundred concerts a year, in fact) for his dedicated fans. “I think music heals and it’s about how their connection to my music has helped them get through certain things.”
