Five Products for Three Looks
It doesn’t take a huge makeup collection to create a variety of looks. Makeup artist, Karen Malcolm-Pye shares the only five beauty items you need to make multiple looks.
The products are versatile, meaning they can take you from a natural look to a more intense one.
Smashbox Photo Op Eye Shadow Trio in Vignette, $36
Nars Eye Paint in Tatar, $29
MAC Powder Blush in Dame, $25
The Body Shop Color Crush Lipstick in 205 Passionate Pink, $13
Maybelline Volum’ Express Pumped Up Colossal Waterproof Mascara in Black, $8.99
Look 1: Fresh Day time Look
Apply Dame blush to the apple of your cheeks. The cheek color is the focus of this look so go ahead and be a little bolder with the color. Start with a little bit of color and add more until you have the desired color.
Apply the lightest color from the Smashbox trio all over the eyelid and under the brow. This creates a soft highlight to brighten the eye.
Swipe on one or two coats of Maybelline mascara (top eyelashes only). Everyone likes their lashes done differently so the amount you apply is personal.
Dab on The Body Shop lipcolour to the bottom lip and rub lips together to transfer the lip color to the top lip. This lipstick is very pigmented and a little goes a long way so be careful not to over apply. If you’d like, feel free to blend the color into your lips with your finger and bring the color to the bow of your lip.
Look 2: Trendy Look
Brush on blush color to the apple of the cheeks. Give yourself a soft glow with just a hint of blush instead of a bold application.
Apply the lightest color from the Smashbox trio to the eyelid from the lash line to the brow bone. This creates a brightening affect by highlighting the eyelid.
Apply the Nars eyeliner to the top lash line only. Take the eyeliner across the entire upper lash line and wing it out and up in outer corner. Get the perfect wing by drawing an imaginary line from the end of your eyebrows to the outer corner of your eye, then draw the liner in that direction.
Swipe on your mascara to just top lashes, one or two coats depending on what you like. By keeping the mascara on just your top lashes you keep the eye looking open and bright. Depending on your eye shape mascara on both upper and lower lashes can really close off the eyes.
Blot lipstick onto the bottom lip and the top lip to define the shape. The bold colour is meant to be the feature of this look.
Look 3: Evening Look
Lightly buff the blush onto the apple of your cheeks for a natural, pinky glow.
Beginning in the center of your eyelid and blending outward apply the Nars paint; bring it slightly into the crease. This product is long wearing and dries quickly, so you can use your finger if you need to blend more. Next, take an angled eyeliner brush and apply the eye paint to the lash line under the eye and all the way across. Angled brushes provide a seamless application to the lash line.
Blend the darkest shade of the Smashbox trio along the top lash line towards the crease. From there take the medium shade over the eyelid and blend well into the crease. This creates a blended smoky eye; important for this type of look. Now take the medium color with the angle liner brush and glide the shadow overtop of the eyeliner under the eye.
Brush on mascara to the top and the bottom lashes if you choose. You get a more dramatic look when the dark shadow combines with mascara-d top and bottom lashes.
Apply lipstick to the bottom lip, and rub your lips together to transfer color. Then apply more lipstick to the top lip to define the shape and bow of the lip. Be light handed with this step, you don’t need much color for this look, just a wash of beautiful pink.
