Jane’s Tips on Using Timeless Neutrals

  • "Neutrals" that have a more grey base tend to last longer and are considered more neutral as they blend better.
  • To make a house more custom don't paint the entire house in one neutral. Instead use a variety of different neutrals and use them in different rooms.
  • Neutrals are great to add to rooms if u want brighter coloured furniture to keep a space more classic.
  • In a traditional home with separate rooms mix neutrals thru out the spaces and connect them with baseboard and trim in the same colour throughout.
  • In the 1980s gray was the neutral. In the 1990s it was beige. Right now its all about white and mixing neutrals. Its not just about one colour thru out the house. Things are more complex now.
  • Neutral wood colours includes a light birch and blond colour although we have always thought of dark wood as only being neutral
