Go bold with the chairs. Re-upholster your dining chairs in a bold coloured fabric. Often times traditional pieces are well made, repurpose what you can, you will get a one of a kind look for less and often at a better quality then buying new.
Update your place settings. Using contemporary dishes and glassware on your table scape will make your traditional table feel more fun and relaxed, mix and max if you don't have enough of one style.
Neutralize your wall for a most sophisticated look. This tan creates a warm feel against my bold orange dining chairs.
Use contemporary art to offset some of the traditional feel. Blending modern art in to your traditional dining room will help set the tone for a more youthful feel. Oversized canvas paintings work the best.
Purchase a glass desk. This will counter act the traditional chair and create an interesting eclectic feel.
Use a contemporary desk lamp. This will further off set the tradition feel and doesn't cost a lot!
Black and white photography always feels classic but fresh. Use a large scale piece or multiples in the same frame to created a strong contemporary statement.
Go bright on the walls. This canary yellow colour makes our damask feel glam!
