Tips for the Perfect Thanksgiving Dinner
As we get ready to fill our homes with friends and family for the big meal here are a few things to remember as you plan your thanksgiving soiree:
-
Take inventory of your plates/stemware 1 week before
-
Measure your dining table to see what size of table runner and placemats you need.
-
Bring your house to life with the seasonal touches like gourds, pumpkins and /or candles to evoke fall
-
Set the table the NIGHT before and free up that time to catch your breath and freshen up for your party. Nobody likes a stressed out hostess.
-
The night before thanksgiving pull out of your platters and serving ware and put a post it note on each as to what dish will be used for what. That way you will realize “oh, I forgot a gravy boat” let me get out the step stool and find that before you have a house full of guests and dinner is on the table!
-
Pull out a few extra dessert dishes or cake stands as well as a few vases -- guests will often bring a dessert or flowers and you want to be ready to display them and not be fumbling around in search of a cake pedestal.
-
Incorporate tradition, a recipe from your mom, grandma’s stuffing/dressing, a signature cocktail etc… as it makes it fun to invoke tradition
-
Choose some great music and have it on in time for the first guest to arrive.
-
Take a breath, welcome your guests and enjoy your party. Give thanks.
