Jane Lockhart's Chair Buying Tips:

1. Determine what you use the chair for, who will be using it and what room it will be in.

2. Types of filling

Down Seat: a combination of down and poly-dacron fibre- this type of seating offers ultimate softness and comfort with a firm cushion core encased by feathers. Wrinkles are common and having a perfectly arranged cushion seat is not entirely possible. It has a “lived in” look.

Bench Seat (Ultra Cell Foam): All tight seats are constructed with a “comfort-core” design- the springs and foam are placed deep within the frame for a superior seat. This type of design eliminates all the uncomfortable associations with this bench seat style. There is not a ‘plank’ like feeling as a result.

Ultra Cell Foam: provides a higher density and is able to withstand a high energy impact of absorption and weight and distributes pressure evenly. This cushion is for those who always want the seat looking tidy as it has a lot of definition.

3. Various details that can be added to customize a chair

  • fabric options…leather/vinyl, micro fibre, velvet, woven etc
  • nail heads
  • piping
  • skirting
  • type of feet –metal, wood etc
  • tufted back/seat
  • tight back vs cushion back
  • wivels
  • seat depth

4. "What's Hot Now?"

  • Tufting – seats and backs
  • Large piping
  • Contrast piping
  • Nailhead detail
